Combination locks fall into two main types: retrievable and resettable. Retrievable locks have a fixed combination set by the manufacturer, while resettable locks let users change their combination for optimized security.

A retrievable combination lock has a fixed combination set by the manufacturer, which is unchangeable but retrievable if lost. Locker locks like the Master Lock 1525 combination padlock comes with a preset combination that can be retrieved with the serial number located on the back or on the packaging.

    How to change the combination:

    This lock is preset at the factory to operate at 0-0-0-0.

    1. With dials at 0-0-0-0, pull out the shackle
    2. Turn shackle counterclockwise 90 degree (1/4 turn)
    3. Continue pressing shackle down and turn another 90 degree (1/4 turn)
    4. Set the dials to your own combination
    5. Turn shackle clockwise back to the original 90 degree position, lift and return shackle to closed position
    6. Be sure to record your NEW combination as you are the only one that knows it!

    Master Lock 875 & 975

    Here are the instructions on how to reset the combination on your backpack lock (which is pre-set at the factory to open to combination 0-0-0):
    1. Align dials to preset combination (0-0-0).
    2. While pushing in button located on the bottom of the lock, turn the dials to any combination you choose.
    3. Release button only after you have finished choosing your combination.
    4. The lock is now ready to be used. To change your new combination again, dial your combination and repeat steps 2-3.
    5. Don't forget to write your combination down and keep it someplace safe!

    1. Open the lock & withdraw the cable.
    2. Turn the collar (circular, ribbed & in front of the combination wheels) - clockwise until it stops (about halfway around).
    3. Set the combo wheels to your desired combination.
    4. Turn the collar counterclockwise until it stops at its original position.
    5. Record your new combination in a safe place.
